Housing construction Indonesia.

Housing construction in Indonesia on the island of Bali.

In Bali, architectural firm Cladder designed and built an extension of an existing house. A Balinese roof was added to this extension. The house is located directly on the sea.

Challenge

The challenge in designing this house was to create a beautiful Balinese roof structure. How could I design it without using columns? That was the question.

Value

The project's completely different building requirements were particularly interesting. Homes in Bali don't require insulation because it's always warm. This meant we could also make do with relatively simple, single-pane windows. It was important, however, that the house had good ventilation to ensure cooling. This was achieved with roller blinds instead of window frames in certain areas. The value lies in a spacious home with cooling air.
